In a very short time areas of the middle east have come to fore as prime holiday destinations with their modern infrastructure, western-friendly values and year round sunshine. Dubai is not the only middle destination that is becoming more popular however, other nations on the Arabian Peninsular like Bahrain, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi are attracting more and more tourists looking for an alternative to run of the mill Mauritius holidays.

So why is the middle east becoming so popular? Oil is an extremely lucrative commodity and it will continue to be until it runs out. This means that any area that drill oil and sell it on will by default become incredibly rich. This means that the areas that farm and export this oil make a lot of money out of it and become extremely rich. The same process has happened with a large number of countries in this region.

This rapid and continual flow of cash has meant that places like Dubai can go from a virtually unheard of village to a major global city. Dubai is now a business hub and the location of multiple Dubai holidays. Other destinations have piggybacked of Dubai’s success.

The fact that Bahrain has its own F1 Gp really put the country on the map. Qatar currently has a Moto GP race and is set to host the Soccer world cup in 2022. Abu Dhabi have hsoted an F1 race for the past two years and the track facilities are second to none. Oman is becoming popular with families. All this demonstrates that the Emerites are making it on the world stage and make great late holiday deals. If you are used to beach holidays in the med, the Emirites makes a great alternative owing to the vastly different culture and landscapes of the two regions.

Otherwise known as the party capital of the the world, this Spanish Balearic island has a well deserved reputation. Most of the action centers around Ibiza Town, the island’s capital located on the southern part of the island, and San Antonio in the west. These locations are probably the best place to book one of the affordable and convenient Ibiza hotels. Even if you plan on dancing your holiday away, everybody needs some sleep sometimes. For many travellers to Ibiza a typical day involves hopping onto the party bus in order to hit some of Ibiza’s best nightclubs, dancing until dawn and then putting your feet up at one of the cheap hotels before repeating the cycle again. Party buses, breakfast buffets, private pools and spa services are all put on by Ibiza hotels to tempt holidaymakers into choosing their property.

Es Paradis

This Roman-themed San Antonio nightclub is best known for its Fiesta Del Aqua water parties, which take place several times a week throughout the summer months. On Fiesta Del Aqua nights, Es Paradis is transformed with the entire dance floor turned into a swimming pool. Playing everything from Balearic house and trance to rock, the club has one of the most eclectic music policies on the island. Before heading back to one of the Ibiza hotels, look out for the opening of the Es Paradis Pyramid – a 120 foot ceiling that opens with the first rays of the warm Ibiza sun.

Pure Pacha

With a 3,000 person capacity, this mega-club attracts tons of trendy Spanish and international clubgoers. The upscale nightclub with its glamorous high-class vibe is the perfect place to dress up and spent the evening out. The clubs main speciality is Balearic house music, but some variety is offered in its line-up. It features an upstairs terrace and a huge dance floor that sprawls over multiple levels of the club.

Space

Space is a not-to-be-missed club experience, according to many Ibiza veterans. Although some different musical variations are often heard, the club has a predominately techno. The club offers a huge room downstairs for the headliners, as well as a sunset terrace where you can chill for a bit before heading back to one of the of the cheap hotels.

Looking for a shopping holiday with a difference? One place ideal for those wanting a bargain or two is the stunning island of Ibiza. From its hippy markets to Christmas markets to much more, book one of the many Ibiza hotels to take full advantage of the island’s unique shopping experience. And bartering is par for the course too – you’ll need to brush up on your haggling skills to get the most out of your trip here!

The Hippy Market Punta Arabi at Es Cana is a real hive of activity. Held in the grounds of the Club Punta Arabi, countless stalls huddle under the shade of the pine trees in the traditional winding paths between white bungalows. Head out from one of the many cheap hotels and prepare to shop till you drop!

Las Dalias is a popular place, a bit like a smaller version of the Hippy Market. In San Carlos in the North-East, you’ll find this most famous of markets. Every Saturday the Las Dalias market takes place in the grounds of a restaurant.

The Las Dallas Christmas Market is still merry and festive, even if the weather feels deceptively un-Christmassy. From mid December, this is the market to visit. The Las Dalias restaurant is transformed into a Christmas wonderland, complete with stalls selling gorgeous gifts, decorations and more.

For a car boot sale with a bit more sophistication, you’ll want the market at San Jordi Rastrillo. Head off from one of the Ibiza hotels early to catch the bargains. Popular with locals and tourists, it’s set in the grounds of the Hipodromo horse-racing track at Sant Jordi.

For something more traditional, pop along to the San Miguel Artisan Market. Here, during the summer months, you can find handmade items, sold in the village square. It’s worth spending some time here for the atmosphere, even if you don’t buy anything. Plus in the evening, in front of the stunning church, Ibicencan dances are held. One not to be missed!

Edinburgh lies in the imposing yet stunningly beautiful shadows of the castle and is a playground for fine food and drink connoisseurs. Many Edinburgh hotels boast fine dining restaurants and bars too, so you don’t even have to set a foot outside the front door.

You must try a Michelin starred restaurants: Edinburgh boasts many Michelin-starred restaurants, which include 21212, set in a listed Georgian townhouse, Number One in The Balmoral Hotel and the Plumed Horse, who specialise in a fantastic tasting menu guaranteed to tickle your taste buds. Be sure to book in advance, especially at weekends, as the restaurant scene in the city is busy.

You must try haggis: You must sample the traditional dish of haggis. Many, if not the majority, of restaurants serve their own style of haggis, so now is the time to give it a whirl. There is an abundance of traditional restaurants and cafes surrounding Edinburgh hotels so make sure you try out all the tasty treats on offer – Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants all use the traditional ingredient too.

You must visit a traditional pub: If not just to nurse a pint and round off your trip, but to get away from the gastro pubs and wine bars that crowd the Edinburgh hotels. For a bit of folklore and music, head to the small but perfectly formed Royal Oak or Infirmary Street; if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, a hike up Arthur’s Seat is rewarded with a beer and a packet of crisps in Sheep Heid Inn.

You must learn about whisky: With a tour of the famous Scottish Whisky Experience, educated yourself in the art of whisky and sample a glass or two. A whisky connoisseur or not, you soon will be after this enjoyable tour. Along the way, you’ll hear the stories behind this intoxicating nectar, be educated by expert tour guides and whisky advisers who will help you discover the aromas and flavours that will lead you to your perfect malt!

Vacation at home is the cheapest vacation that your family can organize. When you are after a place to take a break and not have to a lot of money during the summer springs, the best place you can consider for a vacation is your home. With a strong trip at home plan, you do not have to book an airline ticket, make hotel reservations, and plan for itineraries. With a little dash of creativity, you are on your way to saving time and money.

For your first trip at home idea, take a look at visiting tourist spots in your city. There are millions of Americans who think they have seen everything in their own city because they lived in it, only to find out that your home city has so much more to offer. Your city probably has lots of art galleries, museums, theme parks, and landmarks that tourists and other countries love to see. To find out what the excitement is all about, be wise and take a visit at some of these places.

When we go to a normal vacation out-of-town, we feel compelled to dine-out every time. But why don’t you do it at your own city? Your city probably has many of restaurants that you do not know. This is a wonderful way to experience another of home and appreciate your city more.

If you are looking for an outdoor adventure, you do not have to fly thousands of miles to get that experience. It may not be the great barrier reef, but a few days’ camping in the nearest mountain lake can be fulfilling. In addition, you do not have to spend a lot to get there.

At the end of the day, a trip at home is not cheap escape. You can now experience the beauty of simple pairs, and make the most of your resources since this opportunity has presented itself. Remember, that your house is always the best place. You do not have to go to other avenues to experience extraordinary things.

It’s always exciting to know that you’ll be escaping to a hotel for a few days, but there can seem to be so much to arrange before you can switch into “holiday mode” that you might sometimes wonder if it’s worth the stress. To begin with, how do you choose the right destination? Is there a particular location you wish to visit, or are you open to anywhere that suddenly takes your fancy? Do you want small and intimate – or an all singing all dancing affair with Olympic size swimming pool and fabulous Spa? With mail shot brochures, television adverts and fancy websites all promising the best hotel deals on the planet you might be reaching for the headache pills before you’ve even switched on the computer. But personal recommendations can be a good start – or independent internet reviews.

Are you looking for a hotel by the sea or in the city? Luggage is usually heavy and cumbersome, so if you’re going by train, a hotel within walking distance of the station is perhaps worth considering. After all, dragging a bulging suitcase through a busy town centre isn’t the best start to a holiday. If you’re heading to your destination by car you should always check if your chosen hotel has parking facilities, and how much they’ll cost – if you’re lucky, they may even be free! If you do want to be in a particular spot, do your homework and make sure the hotel is actually where it claims to be. Just because it’s called ‘Seashore View’ doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be walking straight onto the beach in the morning.

If you’re taking the whole clan be sure to ask about family discounts, and make sure you ask for written confirmation of any offers made to you at the time of booking. It might save time – and argument – when you come to check out at the end of your stay.

For a romantic trip for you and your significant other, you may wish to consider avoiding any hotel that is advertised as “family friendly”. Many a candlelight dinner has been ruined by someone else’s offspring screaming blue murder at the next table because they can’t get their own way. Worst still, you’ll only get even more wound up and stressed out when they’re in the next room to you with the TV on full blast at six the next morning.

On the subject of dining, if you’re hoping to enjoy some high quality food on your break then you may wish to look into the dining options at your chosen hotel so you know what to expect. Even if you only book bed and breakfast, and you have the option of dining out in the evening at local eateries, it’s nice to know there’s a top notch restaurant right there in the hotel for those nights you really can’t be bothered going anywhere else.

Finally, remember, a holiday needn’t be ruined by faulty air conditioning, lumpy pillows or a TV that doesn’t work. If the staff at your chosen hotel is friendly and caring, there’s not much that can’t be overcome – and a good time should be had by all.

You’re looking forward to your well deserved break with the family – but you’d be forgiven for not looking forward to packing for it. But with a little thought and planning you can turn packing for your holiday into an effortless task – by eliminating the need to pack everything but the kitchen sink.

It’s sensible to take low maintenance clothes. Garments that crease easily – or that you only wear once in a blue moon – should really stay in your wardrobe at home. If you’re going to be visiting the hotel restaurant – or eating out in the evening – you could always pack something a little dressier to make you feel special. But it’s wise to leave those six inch heels at home. There’s a time and a place – and a family holiday with the kids probably isn’t either.

If you’re visiting a seaside resort, remember swim suits and arm bands, beach towels and sun cream. And even if you’re expecting a heat wave, it’s a good idea to pack lightweight coats – after all, the good old British weather does occasionally catch us all out!

For all that sightseeing you might be planning; you’ll all need a pair of comfy shoes. And if you’re anticipating lots of walking – maybe a box of plasters just in case. And on the subject of medical supplies, it’s worth it to include some medicine for the children. If they wake up in the middle of the night with a fever, at least you’ll be able to give them some comfort without pacing the corridors or donning your coat and trawling the streets for a 24 hour chemist.

Lots of hotels provide complimentary toiletries these days but, if you’re taking your own, it’s worth buying small travel size bottles as they take up less room than standard bottles. And when you’ve used up the contents, you can simply rinse out the bottles and re-fill them with your usual brand when you go on your next trip.

If your child is afraid of the dark – and they’re going to be sharing your room – it’s a good idea to take a little battery operated night light to set up next to their bed. And don’t forget their favourite teddybear. That way they’ll be able to sleep soundly – and so will you!
Although a lot of hotels offer colouring books, crayons and other activities that their younger guests can enjoy quietly, they don’t take up much room in your suitcase and could be a godsend when you some time to yourself with no interruptions.

On the subject of your little ones, they can be prone to creating a mess at mealtimes, so if you’ve a small person who has a tendency to dribble, make sure you’ve packed enough extra clothing to allow for spillages.

Finally, if the children are getting under your feet whilst you try to pack – why not get them to help? Send them off to look for items you need. And if the thought of it puts the fear of God in you, don’t worry – if anything gets forgotten you can at least blame someone else!

Hotel room prices can be misleading. Because you see a low price advertised do not assume that it is good value. Always ask some questions and do a little research:

Location – If a hotel is located out of the way then you will need to factor in the extra travel costs that you will incur. If you have your own transport, then this is not such a big deal, though you will still be paying at least a bit extra for gas, but if you are relying on taxis and public transport then it is certainly something to consider. Ask about a free shuttle service too, as some hotels provide one whereas some do not.

Facilities – If two hotels are charging the same price for a room but one has, say a swimming pool and a gym, then that one is better value than the one without the extra facilities. Similarly, if you do not plan to use any extra facilities then staying in a hotel that has them will mean that you will probably be paying extra unnecessarily.

Restaurant – If you are staying in a hotel for a few days then the chances are that you will end up eating in the restaurant at least once. Hotel restaurants normally over-charge in general, but the question is just how much are doing so? So, find out how much something like a hamburger and fries would be at prospective hotels and compare them on price. Anything more than $12 should be considered excessive.

Breakfast – Is breakfast included in the cost of the room? Lots of hotels offer continental breakfasts of coffee, juice and toast, rolls or pastries. Some offer full buffet style breakfasts. If you are not planning on eating in the hotel, you might ask for a discount. If you have children or a group with you, that breakfast can be a big money saver – depending on the cost of the room – so you might want to look for a hotel that offers breakfast.

Check out time – Different hotels have different check out times. Look into this before booking a room. You may not want to leave your room before 11am, noon or 1pm. If checkout is very early, see if you can negotiate a discount. If you get into the room very late the night before, see if you can get a later check out time. Hotels will sometimes compromise. Some hotels will also hold your luggage for you while you site see, either earlier than your check in time or later than your check out time.
