Sheffield Vacations and Tourist Attractions Well Worth Seeing

Today England vacations are the fashion. The many reasons are complex but most are in agreement that the main factor is the current depression and the increasing need to save money, especially in relation to family vacations. A further influencing fact is the decreased value of the Pound Sterling which causes foreign travel for the British to be rather expensive but, alternatively, travel into the United Kingdom is cheap. England has many first class vacation destinations including a large number of seaside resorts, however more folk are choosing to take weekend city breaks instead. Popular city vacation destinations include; London, Birmingham and Manchester but there are plenty of other places in England in which to take a vacation such as Sheffield. Tourist Attractions In Sheffield

For a city with an industrial past especially in the steel and cutlery industry, Sheffield sports a superb variety of art galleries. The most well known are the Graves Art Gallery, Millennium Galleries and Site Gallery. The Millennium Galleries are a free entry visitor attraction and have visiting exhibitions (entry is for a few pounds. The Ruskin Gallery is based upon a collection given by John Ruskin in 1875 and features watercolors, sketches, minerals, casts, paintings and a selection of medieval illuminated manuscripts.

You will discover that Sheffield is home to a small number of museums however the City Museum is located on the outskirts of the city center as is the Kelham Island Museum which houses all kinds of things associated with the industrial past of the city and old machines. Although the city was bombed heavily during World War Two some superb examples of Victorian and older architecture still survive and the city center is incredibly easy to navigate on foot. Try to make time to visit the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul which dates back to the fifteenth century.

Staying In Sheffield

As the city has a University the bars, cafes and clubs can become surprisingly busy at the weekends, during which time students make the most their free time. While lots of people enjoy such a vibrant nightlife others would prefer a more quiet place in which to stay, such people should make a reservation in a hotel away from the center of the city.
