Six Valuable Travel Recommendations For Anyone Travelling To Australia And The Pacific

Here’s some travel tips I found invaluable from my last vacation through Australia and the Pacific.

1.Cairns is the best destination to learn how to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef if you want good value and good safety considerations.
No matter what you hear, you won’t be able to organise your Scuba Diving or Great Barrier Reef Cruises in Cairns cheaper when you arrive .In fact they will possibly all be fully booked in the busy season.

2.Australia’s most popular beaches can hold hard to see dangers in the shape of strong currents called rips. Avoid them by always staying between the red and yellow flags – they mark the safest place to swim on the beach.  Lifesavers wearing red and yellow uniforms generally patrol beaches during the summer period, but some of the most well frequented beaches are patrolled all-year round. Never swim alone, at night, under the influence of alcohol or directly after a meal. Always check water depth before diving in and never run and dive into the water from the beach.

3.Kava, the traditional drink in Fiji, can affect you more than you would think (numbing of your mouth is one thing). Only drink it if you feel relaxed and are somewhere safe. One or two sips won’t do much, however, so don’t be worried about trying it if you trust the supplier.Another [point|One other note]: 20 years ago women NEVER participated in the kava ceremony. In tourist areas this has changed, but in the more traditional islands of Fiji and many other Pacific countries, it remains prohibited.

4.Fiji Warning. I have been speaking to some associates who have just returned from a round the world holiday.Try to use your visacards as little as possible as both of them had $3000 stolen out of their accounts whilst in Fiji.Luckily they had insurance so will be getting it back.

5.Drive carefully in NZ. Drinking and driving is regretably an unnecessary part of country New Zealand culture – especially on the South Island. Kiwi’s are especially aggressive drivers. Those roads are narrow and winding. Don’t try to go fast. Don’t try to use the cruise control. Don’t accidentally use the wrong (right) [side of the road]. Seriously. So many deaths in NZ are from car accidents. Be careful.

6.When enjoying a trek, whilst in New Zealand check the length of the hike and think about employing a local guide for long or overnight treks. If walking by yourself, tell your hotel where you’re going and when you expect to return. Wear protective boots, a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent and take protective gear, a topographic map and plenty of water. When walking, stay on the trail, behind safety barriers and away from dangerous situations. Don’t touch native animals, as you might get scratched.  Plan walking in summer months carefully.

I trust these assist anyone about to leave.
