Travelling by train is so relaxing. Of course you will hear people go on about the freedom you get by driving everywhere yourself but sometime it is nice to let other people take control. Then you don’t have all the worries of dealing with traffic and trying to find a parking space. You can just sit back and relax knowing full well that you will arrive at your destination with absolutely no effort on your part.
I actually really like to read a good book when I travel by train. This is something that I just don’t find enough time to do at home so when I am on a train it gives me the perfect opportunity. These days plenty of people would rather listen to their MP3 player but for me there is nothing better than getting caught up in a good story. Although I have seen plenty of people who can manage to read a book at the same time as listening to music – so they are definitely good multi-taskers. If I am travelling for quite a bit of time, I normally cannot read all the way so I sometimes just sit back and watch the other travellers which can be quite interesting. For most of us, meeting up and talking to strangers is not something that we do very often but on a train it is quite common – it is kind of like going back in time. I also enjoy the fact that I can get up and get myself a coffee and something small to eat when I am on a train.
These days you can get a train from London to anywhere in Europe. The Channel Tunnel connects the UK to France and travel from Folkestone to Calais only takes thirty five minutes so it really is a fantastic engineering feat. Now you can even take your car on those special trains that speed under the sea – it is like having your cake and eating it too.
