Today England vacations are the fashion. The many reasons are complex but most are in agreement that the main factor is the current depression and the increasing need to save money, especially in relation to family vacations. A further influencing fact is the decreased value of the Pound Sterling which causes foreign travel for the British to be rather expensive but, alternatively, travel into the United Kingdom is cheap. England has many first class vacation destinations including a large number of seaside resorts, however more folk are choosing to take weekend city breaks instead. Popular city vacation destinations include; London, Birmingham and Manchester but there are plenty of other places in England in which to take a vacation such as Sheffield. With rooms available for as little as £20 a night, Sheffield bed and breakfast accommodation makes for a cheap city vacation destination.

Tourist Attractions In Sheffield

For a city with an industrial past especially in the steel and cutlery industry, Sheffield sports a superb variety of art galleries. The most well known are the Graves Art Gallery, Millennium Galleries and Site Gallery. The Millennium Galleries are a free entry visitor attraction and have visiting exhibitions (entry is for a few pounds. The Ruskin Gallery is based upon a collection given by John Ruskin in 1875 and features watercolors, sketches, minerals, casts, paintings and a selection of medieval illuminated manuscripts.

You will discover that Sheffield is home to a small number of museums however the City Museum is located on the outskirts of the city center as is the Kelham Island Museum which houses all kinds of things associated with the industrial past of the city and old machines. Although the city was bombed heavily during World War Two some superb examples of Victorian and older architecture still survive and the city center is incredibly easy to navigate on foot. Try to make time to visit the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul which dates back to the fifteenth century.

Staying In Sheffield

As the city has a University the bars, cafes and clubs can become surprisingly busy at the weekends, during which time students make the most their free time. While lots of people enjoy such a vibrant nightlife others would prefer a more quiet place in which to stay, such people should make a reservation in a hotel away from the center of the city.

If a Sheffield weekend break is not your kind of thing why not consider booking a weekend in a bed and breakfast in London, the capital city of England? Alternatively why not consider booking a couple of weeks in a hotel in Liverpool, which was the European Capital of Culture in 2008 and benefits from an incredible selection of first class visitor attractions.

The UK has a great deal to offer the tourist and the numerous incredibly interesting, and incredibly diverse, cities commonly offer more than the numerous seaside resorts.

Blackpool is a seaside resort sited on the English North West coast, which remains incredibly popular with tourists arriving from the nearby cities and towns which include Liverpool, Manchester, Warrington and more. The resort is also deeply popular with the Scottish who often turn up in large groups rather like the groups of factory workers of old on their company holiday. Occasionally it would seem that the resort is smothered in hotels and visitor attractions and although there is a large amount of bed and breakfasts in Blackpool it is still best to book in advance to be sure. Hotels varies from the cheerful and cheap to 5 star. Many are situated on the sea front but, if you prefer stay something more peaceful there are a few further inland.

In the eighteenth century Blackpool began to see its first tourists who had visited to enjoy the new craze of sea bathing. With the advent of the railway, from 1846 onwards, the town saw more tourists arriving to”take the cure”. Nowadays people can get to Blackpool by aeroplane, road or rail arriving there much faster than the early Victorian mill workers who would take up to 2 days from as nearby as Manchester.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

The main attraction in the resort, in Lancashire on the north west coast of England, which brings in approximately 7 million visitors every twelve months, is Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The Pleasure Beach is a static funfair with breath taking big rides, just a few are Valhalla, Grand National, the Pepsi Max Big One, Ice Blast, Zipper Dipper and Wild Mouse, as well as many more children’s rides, roller coasters, thrill rides, sideshows, sidestalls and games. The most recently added big thrill is Infusion, the world’s first to be a coaster of suspended loops all of it being over water.

Please remember: If you are visiting the Pleasure Beach as a family group you can save pennies by purchasing an unlimited ride wristband especially if you will be going on as many rides as possible because the individual cost of each ride soon starts to add up.

Getting There And Bed And Breakfast

As mentioned earlier in this article, Blackpool is very easy to get to nowadays as you can travel there by railway, car or plane. Arriving by train you will, most probably, be arriving at the main train station in Blackpool, which is Blackpool North on Talbot Road. Not too fat away, just a little further down the road is where you will find Blackpool National Express Coach Station, Blackpool’s main bus station. The other train station, Blackpool South, is at Waterloo Road, which is better for those wanting the Pleasure Beach. Blackpool Airport is situated approximately 2 miles from the town centre and was known as, Blackpool Squires Gate Airport, one of Great Britains oldest airports.

Blackpool bed and breakfast is usually fairly cheap. Accommodation is cheaper in the off season and more expensive on Saturday and Sunday. Hotels in Blackpool are at their most expensive at the time of the Blackpool Illuminations, which is really the resort’s peak season.

Please remember: Some B & B’s can suffer from noise especially those located close to Central and North Pier. If you prefer somewhere quieter take a look beyond the North Pier.

London, the capital of England in the UK, has a massive selection of world class visitor attractions many of which are the most popular in Britain. For generations London has been a popular vacation destination and much of this interest is due to the immensity of the historical buildings and the unique culture. While many of the visitor attractions found in London have a historic interest, such as the Houses of Parliament, The Tower of London and Buckingham Palace, there are many that are only recent additions, such as the London Aquarium, and the youngest of these is the London Eye.

Many still refer to the London Eye as the Millennium Wheel, the reason being that it was built to commemorate then end of the old millenium and celebrate the new. It was officially opened by the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in the evening of December 31 but, sadly, there were technical issues and it was not opened to the public until March 2000. Standing 135m above London it has become an unmistakable, and highly visible, landmark.

In 1895, in Earl’s Court, was the Great Wheel of London, a giant Ferris Wheel which could carry around 1,600 people at a time. Unfortunately it was demolished in 1907 but today London has a replacement in the London Eye. Although it is not the largest Ferris wheel in the world it can legitimately claim to be the worlds largest cantilever observation tower!

Although the London Eye cannot carry as many people as the Great Wheel of London could it can manage to carry 25 people in each of its 32 capsules. Usually you must remain seated when on a Ferris wheel but on the London Eye you can get up and walk around during the 30 minute revolution.

Around 3.5 million people take a flight on the London Eye each year making it the most popular paid visitor attraction in London and the UK. Most people take a flight on the London Eye just to take in the most fantastic views of London. At the very top you are able to see for about 4 miles which takes in some of the best London landmarks which include St Paul’s and Westminster Abbey. One view which will stay with you is the spectacular view of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben’s clock face.

The London Eye has proved to be rather a romantic place with many people proposing to, and even marrying, their partners there. In fact there are a number of things available which also include educational aspects for schools and colleges as well as river boat trips along the Thames.

If you are planning a vacation to London or just a weekend break it is well worth taking the opportunity to take a ride on this incredible visitor attraction. If your time in London is limited it is a real time saver as you are able to take in nearly all of the most important London landmarks during the 30 minute trip which is impossible to do any other way (excluding a helicopter or balloon ride).

If you are looking for accommodation in London you may appreciate the listings of hotels near the London Eye or the cheap London hotels listed on http://www.londonhotelhelper.com/

The city of Bradford can be found in West Yorkshire, a county in England in Great Britain. Built at the foothills of the Pennine mountain range Bradford was perfectly placed to bloom during the period known as the industrial revolution. The fact is that, during the nineteenth century, the city of Bradford stood at the very forefront of the Industrial revolution and the city very quickly became a major international textile manufacturing centre, focusing on the wool industry and the town of Bradford became known as the wool capital of the world. Due to the ample supply of raw materials of iron ore, coal and soft water the city saw very quick growth of its manufacturing base and a correspondingly rapid growth in population. Unfortunately the textile industry in Bradford eventually fell into decline in the mid 1900′s. Since then the city of Bradford has become something of a rather popular vacation destination with a number of guest houses and hotels providing bed and breakfast accommodation in Bradford.

Bradford’s industrial past has bequeathed us a legacy of superb examples of Victorian architecture, which include; the Wool Exchange, the Neoclassical St. George’s Hall, old mills and the City Hall with it’s gothic extension at the back. The most ancient building to be situated in the city is the Cathedral, which can be traced back to medieval times, and was, for most of its life, a simple parish church. Sadly only a few buildings of this age survive, except for Bolling Hall. Bolling Hall is now a museum, situated about 1m in distance from the centre of Bradford. Sited in a quiet, beautiful garden, the museum takes the visitor on a fascinating journey, to a time dating back roughly 500 years, through the lives of those folk who once could claim Bolling Hall as their home.

Bradford is the home of the National Media Museum, which is probably, the most popular museum found outside London. At one time called the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, the highly entertaining National Media Museum is free to enter which is suitable for people of all ages. The National Media Museum has a total of 3 cinemas, of which one is said to be the finest in the United Kingdom. One is able to explore the past, present and future of television in Experience TV, watch your favourite television moments in TV Heaven, muck about with light colour and lenses in the Magic Factory and investigate the exciting world of animation and watch a real animator at work in the Animation Gallery. Every weekend and during holidays there is an incredibly exciting jam packed schedule of activities, free tours and talks.

If you are planning to have a weekend break in Bradford you will find a large selection of online hotels and guest houses providing bed and breakfast accommodation in Bradford. You will find a broad range of Bradford accommodation at http://bradford.hotelreservationhelper.com/

Bournemouth is a vibrant, thriving and marvelously exciting city, despite the unfortunate fact that it is known as ‘God’s waiting Room’. The sad reason why Bournemouth is called this is that large numbers of elderly people settle here for the period of their retirement. However, the city of Bournemouth has an incredible youth culture, with a high population of university and language students. Obviously a place such as this will be a excellent place to have a few days fun but, there is lots, lots more to keep you interested. In actual fact Bournemouth is surprisingly popular with all ages, the most probable reason why there are so many businesses offering Bournemouth bed and breakfast to choose from.

Bournemouth is found right on the coast in the South of England, roughly 100m southwest of the capital, London. The largest town found on the south coast, Bournemouth, is widely known for its seven miles of spectacular golden sandy beaches and glistening rich blue sea. It is the city’s mind blowing situation that has made it a popular UK tourist destination since the start of the 19C. It is nearly impossible to understand that in and around the area of Bournemouth was, at the start of the 1800′s, nothing less than a remote and barren heathland consisting of mainly common land with the exception of Sir George Ivison Tapps’. In the year 1809 a public house appeared on the heathland, the Tapps Arms, a few of years later, in eighteen twelve, the first people, a retired army officer and wife, moved in.

Lewis Tregonwell and his wife acquired some land, from Sir George Ivison Tapps, upon which they built a series of villas looking out to sea with the idea being to let them out to visitors in the summer for vacations. Lewis Tregonwell and his wife also constructed themselves a summerhouse. and also set about planting an astronomical amount of pine trees, creating a fantastically sheltered walk leading to the beach, , which was later called the Invalid’s walk.

Ever since those days Bournemouth’s popularity, as a English vacation destination, has ceaselessly increased, and today, it is widely known as a tourist haven for culture, entertainment, leisure, recreation and fun. Places which tourists love to visit include; the graveyard of St. Peters Church, Bournemouth Pier, the award winning Central Gardens and the Russel-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum.

If you and your family are in the process of considering taking a vacation in Bournemouth it is crucial that you reserve your room as early as possible as, unfortunately guest houses and hotels in Bournemouth tend to be amazingly busy and are often fully booked well in advance. If you are travelling in a large group you might find that apartments in Bournemouth prove to be cheap alternative to bed & breakfast in Bournemouth.

The city of Cambridge is widely known throughout the world as being the home of the University of Cambridge, one of the most prestigious in England. The University has a total of some 31 colleges including; Christ’s College, Churchill College, Clare College, Clare Hall and Corpus Christi College which have a major impact upon the city. Although many people arrive at Cambridge with their main aim being to see the University, Cambridge has a good number of other attractions other than the University. Happily there is a large selection of Cambridge bed & breakfast accommodation to choose from (Important: see last paragraph).

The city is an ancient medieval town and therefore there is a wealth of superb architecture. It is possible to stroll around the ancient streets, enjoy one of the various parks and gardens or you may go punting down the River Cam. If the thought of going punting appeals to you, then one could rent a punt or alternatively you could hire a chauffeured punt. You will discover a fair number of organisations offering this facility along the River Cam. As a further alternative a trip down the River Cam in a narrow boat.

Cambridge is also well known for its churches, with 13 of them being within the city of Cambridge’s confines. Of the thirteen churches found in Cambridge town centre it is All Saints Church which is thought by many to be one of the most incredible samples of Gothic revival architecture in England. Another noteworthy church is Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is one of only 4 circular Norman churches found in England. The smallest church in Cambridge is the Church of St Peter’s, which is hidden away in a tranquil part of the city. Some of the most spectacular panoramas across Cambridge and colleges of the University are to be experienced from the viewpoint of the University church.

Because there is a vast selection of tourist attractions to visit in Cambridge, it would be near impossible to view all of them in just one day. Therefore, we strongly advise that you spend at least two days in Cambridge. If you are currently deciding upon spending some time in the city of Cambridge it is incredibly important that you reserve your lodgings as early as possible as, sadly Cambridge hotel accommodation tend to be alarmingly busy and are commonly fully booked for weeks or even months in advance. If you are travelling in a group you may find that apartments in Cambridge are a reasonable alternative.

Over on the opposite side of the road you will find a Victorian bandstand, small sections of gardens and flower beds with pools and fountains. At the centre of Lord Street is most probably the most imposing war monuments in Britain with an obelisk at the centre and two other memorials on each side which feature huge columns. Some of the finest of Southport’s architecture is to be found along Lord Street and it is where you will find the Victorian Wayfarers’ Arcade.

At the end of Lord Street is the incredibly beautiful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family just like Lord Street the park has plenty of trees. Hesketh Park also features hidden gardens, a bandstand, glass house, play park and more however the most prominent feature is the gorgeous lake.

At Churchtown you will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens which features a large area of water set out like a river which has boating, a bridge, ducks, swans and other wildlife plus if animals and birds are your thing the park also has a small zoo, just opposite the cafe and museum. Churchtown village is a graceful group of ancient cottages, fishermen’s cottages and houses the majority of which are white and a few feature a thatched roof.
