A Visit To Germany Must Include Munich
Germany is a massive country in more ways than one. Sure it's not quite as big as Australia or the United States in terms of land mass but it's still up there for things to do. You see Germany has a long history. Even though the country that we now call Germany has not existed in it's present state, plenty of the regions have existed for well over a 1000 years. So if you plan to vacation in Germany, you won't be spoiled for things to do.
One of the first things you might think of doing ids to take in the beer festival in Munich. That's a pretty good shout at it has to one of the most original events you are likely to see on a vacation. Sure, plenty of other countries have exported the idea of a beer festival but nothing can quite top the original and best in Munich, in my opinion.
You will soon be chatting to some very noisy but generally happy people. Hmm…what could be the reason for that ? I'd suggest it's the huge quantity of beer that is drunk in no time at all. However it's more likely the way it is consumed than anything else.
The festival grounds consist of many large beer halls or tents. Lets just say that there is not that much to a hall or tent. The first is a fast supply of beer, the second is music or some form of entertainment and the third is many large tables with benches. Strangers sit together on benches and tables in a communal setting. From my experiences of the festival you will soon make beer chugging pals. And due to the world famous appeal of the festival you are bound to meet many people from all over the world including one or two from your own country.
At the height of the festival there are so many people that you have to get to your favorite hall or tent early on. If you don't get in early, say mid morning, you may not get a place on a table and have to sit outside (which is not bad when the weather is good). After that it's some serious drinking with a bit a scran thrown into the mix. The best scran has to be the sausages – ordinary or white sausages (cheese). Ok, it's not a la carte but it tastes great with beer. You can also get those foods that Germany is famous for like pretzels and sauerkraut (which may be an acquired taste).
The are some great sights and must do things in Germany, festivals are particularly popular in Germany and the number one festival is in Munich. It's known as the Oktoberfest but begins around late September through to early October each year. If you are lucky enough to be in Munich around that time you owe it to yourself to spend a day drinking some beer. And once you've gotten over the hangover…there is plenty more to see and do in Munich.
